Until I was 12 my family spent every summer on the shore of a lake in Wisconsin where if I wasn't fishing I was swimming. Then we moved to California where surfing was great and so was the volleyball. Fast forward to to Utah for the last 35 years. Still playing beach volleyball, but I needed something to replace jogging that wouldn't be so hard on my knees. And I knew if I went to a pool on my own and swam more than 5 laps, I would say, "this sucks". Fortunately, I had heard about QUAC, and thanks to some great coaching I learned how to really swim. An added bonus is I started competing and discovered that half of a breaststroke event is just horizontal underwater volleyball. No kidding - talk about transferable skills! But the best thing about QUAC is the great group of supportive friends that make it all rewarding and fun. As for the picture, the short tan guy is Greg Louganis. Sadly, it was a brief affair - this was the last time we were seen together in public.

I am one of QUAC's cocktail lane regulars. I grew up around the water and aquatics has always been a big part of my life, but not until joining QUAC have I been a member of an organized swim team. QUAC's regular workouts and fun-loving team members have kept me coming back.

Favorite Strokes: backstroke, butterfly
Swimming has been a big part of my life ever since I was 13 years old. It is my passion. I swam throughout High School and have coached a few teams since then in New York and New Jersey. I have missed the swimming world greatly. I found QUAC in July of 2003. I love coaching and swimming with the members of the QUAC team. I have made several new friends so far and enjoy everything we do together as a team. The workouts are a lot of fun and the coaching staff is great.

I was raised a professional military brat. Moving from base to base we always had a swimming pool that we would frequent. In high school I was encouraged to join the swim team, I had an awesome backstroke, but my fear of putting my face in the water lead me to other sports. After discovering QUAC, I decided to conquer my fears of a watery grave and compete for fun and self improvement. I love the breaststroke because I call it the advanced doggie paddle. Soon I hope to master the butterfly.

I swam a little bit of age group swimming, and also in high school. I was never among the fastest, but enjoyed it. I am slower now, and completely out of shape, but would like to change that. I like to sing, ski, and kayak (white-water). We march at Pride every year and the QUACers seemed to be having a ton of fun!

I am a triathlete who only knows how to swim freestyle, though, since joining QUAC I've learned I've been doing it wrong. I joined QUAC as a way of meeting people and making friends. I have really enjoyed it so far. The people are friendly and welcoming. I've already made some new friends, and my freestyle is improving in the process. One of these days I'll get around to learning some of the other strokes as well.

Because of two near fatal drowning accidents in my youth, I was never a swimmer. I joined QUAC to 'learn how to swim.' It has been a great year and I have made a lot of progress. Although the breast and butterfly still elude me somewhat, I am committed to make improvements in those areas, as well.

I grew up on a farm in Idaho. Prior to QUAC, my formal swimming experience consisted of earning the swimming merit badge and playing in Idaho canal water. I've been averse to team sports most of my life due to health conditions; however, through dedicated practice with QUAC, I've built my endurance, lost weight, and feel much better about myself. When I first started, I could barely swim 25 yards without feeling like I was drowning - now I'm swimming in competition and having a blast! The club is filled with so many wonderful people and I look forward to swimming with them at every practice.

I grew up in a small town in Argentina next to the big and slow Uruguay River. I spent the summers swimming in the river, trying to make it to the islands and to Uruguay on the other side. Without any formal instruction, I continued to swim on and off in Buenos Aires, Utah, and Toronto, until finally settling in Salt Lake. I knew about QUAC for a long time but procrastinated until a friend dragged me over during 'Bring a Friend to QUAC' week. I wish I had joined sooner. I am finally learning how to really swim, and the friendly, supportive, fun, and non-threatening atmosphere is making this happen. Cheers to the founders, organizers, coaches, and co-swimmers of QUAC!

My parents understood the need for a child to learn to swim, so at a young age I had swim lessons. I enjoyed the water so much that on all family vacations I insisted we have a pool at the Motel. In high school swim class I seemed to do well at Water Polo. It was a good way to get even, as at times I have a touch of the devil in me. :)

After much prodding by another QUAC member, I relented to begin regular swimming. It was been at times difficult but at ALL times very fun. This is a great group of people.

I grew up in Arizona where swimming pools are necessary for survival. I could swim by the time I was three and pretty much lived in the pool from April until October until we moved when I was thirteen. I wanted to try out for the swim team in High School, but allowed myself to be dissuaded. QUAC has given me my second chance to swim for a team. Better still is an atmosphere that is more about personal bests and and enjoying yourself than rivalry and competition. The coaches are great, the atmosphere serious, but relaxed. If swimming is something you've always wanted to try, this is the place to do it.

Used to swim AAU from the age of 4 up until 16. Best stroke used to Fly but now I don't think I can do any stroke well. So I am a begginer on all strokes.

GWM Seeks... (just kidding). Actually, I'm just getting back into the Masters program after a six-year absence. I'm carrying a little extra around the middle right now, which slows me down. However, I'm getting strong enough, after swimming a few months on my own, to start swimming with the team regularly. Just a little bit about me - I'm an avid outdoors man that loves to hike, camp, mountain bike, snow shoe, ski or to just take a nice evening walk. I don't know many people here in the valley that truly enjoy these activities and I'm always looking for those that do... so, if you have these similar interests and you're looking for company feel free to call or email and let's hit the trails.
