QUAC 2008 Halloween Party

Oct 31, 2008
Halloween is an all day event – dress up for work during the day and then in the evening there are parties, clubs, and socializing. This Halloween had socializing at the QUAC party held at Club Gossip.

Here are some highlights:

Club Gossip pulled out all stops and had a fun costume contest, drag queens performing, some aerial acrobatics and some dancing adult entertainers.

See the full gallery on David’s web site, but be forewarned – there are about 900 photos in the gallery, but it was a lot of fun!

Head Swimming Coach Brian Harper Steps Down

Brian Harper has asked to step down as QUAC head coach. He has encountered some hard times with his mother. She has a tumor on her liver which they are trying to shrink so she can be put on the donor list. On top of the tumor she has hepatitis, which they can not treat properly until they take care of the liver. Brian is considering moving to Florida to be with her in her time of illness and recovery.

Our thoughts are with Brian, as we hope for a full and quick recovery for his mother.  Brian has been a great asset to this team and will be greatly missed.

Brian and the QUAC BOD have assured that there will no lapse in coaching after his departure.

Don’t let the cold weather put you into hibernation

GET BACK TO THE POOL – Don’t let the cold weather put you into hibernation

With cold weather fast approaching, getting back in the pool is the best way to avoid a winter hibernation and associated bad habits.  A regular workout schedule (including three weekly swim practices and/or two weekly polo practices) will help counteract those extra ‘holiday calories’ that we all manage to put on and can also prevent the ‘winter blues’.

We have a highly qualified team of coaches that are ready to provide fun and challenging workouts suited to every skill level. Participation numbers are at an all time high, but there’s always room for more. Bring yourself, bring a friend and we’ll see you at the Pool!

Member Profile – Jim Viney

Jim is a passionate volunteer for the sport of swimming. He coaches weekly for our team; has been a member of our Board of Directors; coordinates many swim meets including Ski & Swim and Utah Master’s meets; and donates time and money generously.

Jim Viney

You can count on a good lesson if you jump in one of his lanes. He likes to instruct stroke technique focusing on good body mechanics, and if you listen you’re sure to learn something each every practice. Although he prefers just “Jim”, you can call him “Coach” or Dr. Viney; professionally he works as an Anesthesiologist at Primary Children’s Medical Center.

So how’d he get into swimming? He says: “My father threw me in the water sometime around age 4, I think because we went to the beach a lot and he didn’t want me drowning. I started swimming competitively from 8 to 14 and then took a brief hiatus from 1963 to 2001. In between I ran, biked, skied, telemark and skate-skied competitively. I started coaching swimming for QUAC in 2004 because it was fun. The IGLA meets I have gone to are the most fun athletic competitions I have done in any sport and QUAC has been the most fun group I have worked out with and coached. It’s great to see the improvement our swimmers make by working out with us.”

Thanks for everything Jim!
